Skillet Apple Pie is one way that the troops could bring a little of home to the battlefields so far away. It is made right over your camp fire for your mess mates.
5 Pieces Hardtack (May differ with size of skillet)
1 Cup All purpose flour
5 Sliced apples or dried apples
1/4 Cup Sugar
Take your hardtack and grind them down to a course flour. Mix together your flour, sugar and some water to make a thick batter. Grease your skillet and place the batter into the skillet. Cut your apples into slicesand lay ythem on top of the batter. Sprinkle sugar or molasses on top and place onto the fire. Cover your skillet with another skillet to keep the heat in. Allow your pie to cook until the apples are soft.
